Inside
Inside is an artistically styled movie composed of layer upon layer of the same allegory. From the literal bird trapped in a cage to William Dafoe stuck in the appartment, to the artwork of a man tied up with duct tape, its all about being trapped. The premise is entertaining at first because we all know he's going to get trapped, we all know that's the allegory to expect, but the thing of this movie is that the anticipated conclusion of escaping the trap doesnt happen. The bird dies. The painting gets knocked over. Our lead literally assends into a white light in the sky (maybe). The movie is a vulgar cyclical representation of the modern condition and I guess we just die at the end. Dafoe mentions that perhaps the appartment needed to be destroyed, but he destroyed and destroyed and never came any closer to true assention.
"Heist gone wrong"
"Oh you want IntelliLink Centurion"
This movie started off interesting, but then just really started dragging. There were a lot of possibilities for interesting threads to add a curious twist, but instead this really just fell flat. But at least we got an artful shot of a pile of turds.
